King's Drive News: This serpentining route up the steep-side of Inisfree's central and largest mountain now connects with the Governor's Mansion.
King's Drive
King's Drive:
The Route:
King's Drive is the name of the G.A.H. section in Inisfree which connects the Civilian Beach Strip to the Governor's Mansion by driving up past the San Diego Hills Neighborhood, then underneath the quarter-mile-long arm-and-sword of the half-mile-tall statue of Death (a robed and hooded skeleton symbolizing the personification of the end of life once thought universal and inevitable by all Outlanders). The entire route is on the same, signature, white-and-gold 'pavement' Inisfree's highways and streets are all known for.
Along this route, this two-lane street (of 'smart'-pavement which subtly self-illuminates just ahead of the anticipated vehicle routes upon its surface) climbs 1.25 miles from the top of the Civilian Beach at the base of the San Diego Hills Neighborhood. The distance driven is 2 miles. Most of this route is at a steady 20-25° grade ('slope' or 'incline').
Further Symbolism:
Though Inisfreeans are fantastic at piloting, flying (telekinetic levitation), and teleporting, there are plenty of times when they just enjoy taking 'pleasure cruises'; what Outlanders might call a 'Sunday drive'. When this is the case, the drive to and from the Governor's Mansion always passes underneath the imposing figure and massive, mighty blade of the statue of Death. This is to remind the Governor (and anyone else taking this route) all of the following:
- The Governor conquered death after realizing it was just another temporary and solvable ailment just like any other.
- Driving away from that which he built; moving away from that which was destined, and which he mastered, is to risk a return to the mortal state. This is always true of the Outlands, though it seems now, more and more than ever, and more with each passing discovery and day, that death is just a fading memory -and will be... for the rest of eternity. Still, the Governor feels it is wise to be reverent of all important matters, such as this, that he will never forget the imposing threats of finality and futility, and all that was risked and sacrificed in order to finally beat such a daunting foe who had already crippled the minds and spirits of countless beings before the advent of Auz (who is the same being as Inisfree, and, thus, the same advent as that city's).
- Those who approach the Governor and his personal mansion do so at their own risk; anyone who intentionally insults him or Inisfree stands to lose not just their right to be in Inisfree, but their right to remember the visit, as well, and, possibly, even the right to remember what it was about Inisfree that made them, if only very briefly, an immortal, too.
- Having yielded to his intellect and grit, Death now raises his sword not in pointing menacingly toward the Governor or anything else in Inisfree, but instead to the sky and distant Space, that all things might be terminated which would ever dare to stand in his and his Inisfreeans' way (and Way). Death's sword is now forever raised like a saluting saber arch to him and those who earn the right to approach him and his special, private estate high up on the mountain in the most pleasant place.
Along with all things Inisfreean, such as his rightful position in eternal command of this realm, it is for those reasons that this street's name takes on its double meaning; these are some of the key things which serve as the driving force -the motivation- for the god-king of all Inisfree and the Inisfreeans. His drive propels him up the steepest of slopes, against all odds, and onward to and beyond the boldest of victories against foes demanding the pinnacle of genius and innovation. This is King's Drive; the worthiest of challenges; the worthiest of routes... fit for only a King.
Covered Driveway:
For the final half mile of this street; between the side of the skyscraper-tall Death statue and the outermost property-perimeter gates of the Governor's Mansion's mountain-slope territory, a tunnel is made of dozens of types of flush and often lowering trees. This leads to komorebi; the effect of sunlight filtering down through the leaves of trees, as well as chromotherapy; the therapeutic work naturally enjoyed from exposure to projected light of multiple colors. As one drives underneath this canopy of alternating groups of tree, leaf, and flower types, they are washed in all the colors of the rainbow, one after another, in all the most anciently ingrained ways; the color schemes of nature which resonate with the soul and our very genetic quintessence; that which our timeless ancestors grew accustomed to and in love with over millions of years or even longer.
By the time people driving this street reach the gates of the Governor's Mansion's long side yard, they feel surprisingly refreshed, rejuvenated, and relaxed; ready for their important and rare meeting with the King of all Kings; the leader and progenitor of the mightiest, healthiest, happiest people in all of Creation; Lord Auzdein von Himmler, Father of the Inisfreeans. The ceiling of sunlight-graced, translucent leaves and flower petals opens back up and out away from them, and they are freed into the light blue, aurora laden, Inisfreean-Antarctic sky, and it is then that they see the whole arm of the Milky Way Galaxy rising up over and along the horizon before them, and somehow they just know that everything is going to be alright -and truly further liberating and epic beyond their wildest hopes and dreams. They have reached the Governor's Mansion now, and are in the right mind-and-spirit-set to proceed.
The first gates of the Governor's Mansion, tall and black and gold against the pink and earth-tones stones and stucco of the property's perimeter wall that flank them, are slowly parted open from where they met in the center of the street, and the lion-helmeted Inisfreean girls on guard duty there place their right foot forward in the modified, aggressive version of the P.O.A. (the Position of Attention). Welcome to the heart and command of Inisfree. Welcome to the Governor's Mansion,
